Whithorn was built by Alisdair MacDonald in his garden railway room and represents the short-lived branch line in Galloway, southern Scotland. The idea germinated following retirement when he remembered taking a trip from Glasgow  to Whithorn  by the Stephenson Locomotive Society in 1961.

The model belongs to Alisdair but is fully supported by the club’s  members who assist in operations at exhibitions.
